Now and Then- Colonialism_Postcolonialism and imperialism

Colonialism :-

Colonialism is the practice of establishing territorial dominion over a colony by an outside political power characterized by exploitation, expansion, and maintenance of that territory. The indigenous people suffer in the hands of the colonizer where they are subjected to hard labor and restriction in trading

Post colonialism :-

a theoretical approach in various disciplines that is concerned with the lasting impact of colonization in former colonies.

Imperialism :-

a political system in which a rich and powerful country controls other countries (colonies) which are not as rich and powerful as itself

Now and then:-

There are still many parts in the world which are colonised. The United States of America has a program which is called "United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories". The United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories is a list of places that deems to be "non-self-governing" and subject to the decolonisation process.

Loomba's Colonialism/Postcolonialism is an invaluable introductory text to the many theories, debates and critical agendas that inform and animate postcolonial studies. Two things in particular make this book especially noteworthy: the first is its clarity and accessibility, especially in its explanations of the complex philosophical ideas that form the basis of postcolonial criticism. The second is its contemporary relevance, as this edition has been updated to engage with political and social events over the last decade. The first chapter presents a comprehensive introduction to the field as well as an overview of its theoretical background through definitions of critical terms such as ‘colonialism’, ‘imperialism’ and ‘discourse’. Loomba examines the ways in which structures of knowledge.

The Pinteresque features of The Birthday Party In roduction:- Two of the notable facts about Harold Pinter were, first , that he was a Jew, born of Jewish parents, and , second, that he worked as an actor for some time before he became a playwright. Pinter was born on the 10 th October, 1930 in   Hackney , a London borough. By the time of his birth the Jewish population of North London had risen from about 5000 in 1880 to about 40,000.
