Mario Vargas

Born: 28 March 1936,Arequipa, Peru
Prize motivation : "For his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual's resistance , revolt,  and defeat".

Life

Mario Vargas Llosa was born into a middle-class family in Arequipa, Peru. His parents divorced when he was young, and he grew up with his mother and maternal grandparents in Bolivia, where his grandfather worked as a consular officer. Mario Vargas Llosa developed an interest in poetry at an early age, which was a source of worry for his father, who enrolled him in a military academy. Nevertheless, he followed his literary instincts and became a writer. He was also politically active and ran as a candidate in the Peruvian presidential election of 1990. Nowadays he spends most of his time in Madrid, but also lives in Peru. He has three children.

Work

In the 1960s, Latin American literature experienced rapid development that has come to be called "El Boom". Peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa was at the heart of this explosion. His extensive, rich authorship consists mostly of novels, but also of plays, essays, literary criticisms, and journalism. His works reflect his ardent love of storytelling. They are characterized by rich language and cover a range of genres - from autobiographical books and historical novels to erotic fiction and thrillers.

     Mario Vargas Llosa , the Peruvian novelist , was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 2010. His most recent novel is "The Neighbourhood " . He was interviewed for the world post by Michael Skafidas, a journalist and University of New York .

      In this interview Llosa shared many ideas related to literary work in which I liked many ideas which are given by him .
   1) Idea of feminism
   2) Ideas with  pictures
   3)Talking about historian
   4) The global ideas , etc...

* Brutality  and sexualith:-

     In Mario's latest novel,  "The Neighbourhood ",  he reconstruct the terrible and corrupt but also hedonistic years that followed Alberto Fujimari's election in peru in 1990. In his tale, sex dominates as an act of survival and as a reaction to oppression .
       Mario Vergas told that this was the reality because Peruvian society at that time became subject to terrorism , oppression and Fujimori's dictatorship. The brutality expanded to all levels of society . There was a strict curfew that produced this extraordinary explosion of sex life  and sexuality in the private spaces where one had to dwell. It was the only way you could escape the terrible threat of the real world . During those years, all the principles and moral limitations disappeared . It was a time of the explosion of a terrible freedom . In the novel , Mario wanted to describe this paradox .

* Feminism :-

       According to Mario, it is right to denounce abuses against women . These abuses are everywhere , so he has total sympathy for this movement as far it is for more justice , more democracy, more equality of opportunities for women and men. It has become very sectarian, very dogmatic , and Mario think we have to criticize and oppose these trands.

The Pinteresque features of The Birthday Party

The Pinteresque features of The Birthday Party In roduction:- Two of the notable facts about Harold Pinter were, first , that he was a Jew, born of Jewish parents, and , second, that he worked as an actor for some time before he became a playwright. Pinter was born on the 10 th October, 1930 in   Hackney , a London borough. By the time of his birth the Jewish population of North London had risen from about 5000 in 1880 to about 40,000. The North London Jewry was known for its solid middle class respectability and religious conformity. In view of the economic insecurity which the family felt, Pinter’s father worked very hard, working twelve hours a day, making clothes. Eventually, however the old man lost his business and had to work for somebody else. Pinter never forgot this situation in his early life – the combination of calm and unrest beauty and ugliness; and these qualities permeate his work. Personal history had deeply influenced all Pinter’s writing.
