Sense and sensibility Movie Screening

Sense and Sensibility Movie screening arranged by Heena baa Zala at our Department of English.Sense and Sensibility is a American film which is directed by Ang Lee and it is based on Jane Austen's 1811 novel. The film was released on December 13,1995, in the united states. The story follows the Dashwood sisters, member of a wealthy English family. This film shows how women in upper class Georgian England, though privileged, had relatively few choices in life. It raises a conflict in love that is typical of the comedy of manners, and it resolves the anxieties of its heroines in a pleasing, if unremarkable, way. At the end, Edward proposes to and marries Elinor. Edward becomes a vicar under the patronage of Colnel Branden, whom Marianne marries. Willoughby is seen watching their wedding from a distance, and then rides away. This movie creates a buzz of excitrement around the Dashwood sister's romantic intrigue.

In this movie we can apply the theory of Feminism. Topic is Feminism like:
Marriage as a medium of economics safety
Culturalmaterialim : social institutions
Power Dynamics in Relationships
Age factor
Gender Roles.
We can take Elinor and Edward's characters as faminity of a man. I really like the background in movie. It is very attractive. In this movie we can see the difference between upper class and middle class.

Pinter was born on the 10 th October, 1930 in   Hackney , a London borough. By the time of his birth the Jewish population of North London had risen from about 5000 in 1880 to about 40,000. The North London Jewry was known for its solid middle class respectability and religious conformity. In view of the economic insecurity which the family felt, Pinter’s father worked very hard, working twelve hours a day, making clothes. Eventually, however the old man lost his business and had to work for somebody else. Personal history had deeply influenced all Pinter’s writi...
